Earlier this month, 24 participants from different Arch/Dioceses across Malaysia came together under Caritas Malaysia for an impactful Volunteer Management Training.

This training was a follow-up to the Disaster Response Training held in September 2024, equipping participants with essential skills to manage and empower volunteers effectively.

Lighthouse had the privilege to be part of this training, gaining valuable knowledge that will help us strengthen our mission and better serve our community.

At Lighthouse’s Seed of Hope Garden, every plant tells a story—one of patience, care, and faith.

From Tiny Seeds to Flourishing Growth

Six weeks ago, we planted bandi (okra) seeds—small, fragile, yet full of promise. Today, those tiny seeds have grown into strong young trees, their delicate flowers blooming, and tiny bandi beginning to form. This is a beautiful reminder that with time, nurture, and trust in God’s plan, even the smallest beginnings can bear fruit.

Lessons from the Roselle Tree

Near the fence, our roselle tree has begun to bear fruit, yet its leaves are drying. It struggles, yet it still gives. This serves as a powerful lesson:

Even in seasons of dryness—when we feel weary or lacking—we are called to remain faithful, to give, and to trust that God will bring renewal in His time.

A Garden of Hope

This garden is more than just a collection of plants—it is a reflection of perseverance, faith, and the quiet beauty of God’s work in the little things. As we continue to nurture what He has given us, may we also trust that even in struggle, He is bringing forth fruit in our lives.

A Fresh Start at Lighthouse!

Today, we embraced a season of renewal at Lighthouse by replanting our hedge with vibrant Jasmine Orange (Murraya) plants.

Clearing away the old, dried shrubs, our team lovingly planted 14 young plants—a simple act that holds a deep message.

Just like these plants need care, patience, and nurturing to grow and flourish, so do our lives and the communities we serve. With every effort, we strive to bring fresh hope and vitality to those around us.

These hedges, once in full bloom, will bring new life, clean air, and a sense of beauty to our surroundings—reminding us all of the joys of being environmentally friendly.

At Lighthouse, part of Caritas Penang, our mission to uplift the underprivileged and marginalized communities of our Diocese is fueled by actions like these—small steps toward making a big difference.

As we step into the new year, our Lighthouse workers have commenced the 1st round of the Grave Maintenance Programme.

This annual service ensures the resting places of your loved ones are well-maintained, reflecting dignity, respect, and love. Our team, weather permitting, will visit the Western Road and Kelawai Road cemeteries three times a week to clean and upkeep graves for registered customers.

On 4 January 2024, The Disciples culminated their 9-month journey of Bible learning and discipleship with a beautiful act of service at Lighthouse. Their program, designed to deepen faith and embrace the call to be disciples of the Lord, ended with a meaningful outreach event.

They brought joy and love by cooking and serving a hearty lunch to our clients. With smiles and compassion, they reminded us of Christ’s call to serve one another in love.

We are deeply grateful for their kindness and generosity, which touched the lives of many. This inspiring act shows how faith in action can make a real difference in the community.

The Lighthouse Feeding Centre was abuzz with festive cheer as Edward and his group of 40 dedicated individuals came together to celebrate the joy of Christmas with our clients. This remarkable group, comprised of people from various walks of life and age groups, has been faithfully supporting our Christmas events since 2008.

Highlights of the Day

1.Food Preparation

The group worked tirelessly to pack delicious and wholesome meals for both tea time and dinner, ensuring every client felt the warmth of the season.

2.Games and Carol Singing

Joyful games and heartwarming carols filled the air, bringing smiles and festive spirit to everyone present.

3.Gift and Food Distribution

Thoughtfully prepared gifts and meals were distributed, embodying the true spirit of Christmas giving.

A Legacy of Service

Edward shared the inspiring journey of this mission, which began with just three families. Over the years, it has grown into a larger movement involving youth, younger families, and even children. His vision of nurturing a legacy of compassion and service is truly commendable, inspiring the next generation to continue this mission of love and outreach.

The Penang Diocesan Prison Ministry from Christ the King Church, Sungai Petani, recently brought smiles and warmth to Lighthouse. This amazing 25-member group gathers twice a year to cook and serve meals for the poor and homeless, reflecting the true spirit of giving.

Their visit this time was extra special, featuring carol singing that brightened the hearts of all present. The delicious home-cooked meals served with love touched every soul, creating cherished memories.
